Is Ascendant free right now?
Yes. Open beta is free for households, with no credit card required. Create an account, pick Assistant or Journal, and use the product while we keep shipping improvements.
Why are the prices crossed out?
Those are the normal household list prices (Journal $12/month, Assistant $39/month, per household, not per student). During open beta you pay nothing. We’ll give clear notice before paid plans begin.
Will I have to pay later?
When open beta ends, household paid plans may apply at the list prices shown on this page (per household, not per student). We’ll email account holders before anything is charged. You’re never billed without a clear path to choose a plan.
What’s the difference between Journal and Assistant?
Journal keeps your homeschool organized: planner, logging, hours, portfolios, and high-school records. Assistant includes everything in Journal plus a personalized Knowledge Tree, a short starting check-in, optional suggestions tailored to progress, and Teaching Help when learning gets hard, so you can see what’s next to learn and adapt the materials you already chose.
Why another subscription if I already pay for curriculum?
Curriculum pays for materials and sequence. Ascendant is a different job: the household plan, log, and year, and with Assistant a map so what’s next to learn can match where your child actually is. One household price for every learner, not another per-child content seat. During open beta it’s free.
I already know when learning gets hard. Why do I need this?
Parent judgment, co-ops, and generic AI chat are all useful. What they usually don’t hold is a persistent picture of what your child has demonstrated, what’s missing, and what that implies for what’s next to learn, tied to the same household plan and logs. Assistant connects those pieces; you still decide.
Why household pricing?
Because real homeschools often have more than one learner, often at different places. You’re not charged per child for the family workspace.
Do I have to switch curriculum?
No. Keep the materials you already chose. Ascendant sits between your curriculum and your child. It does not replace your books; with Assistant it helps you adapt them to real progress.
How do I join the open beta?
Create your free family account, choose Assistant (recommended) or Journal, and start using the app. No card is required during open beta.
